"CATALINA"
This 90 year old waterfall vanity was in rough shape and definitely was showing it's age. There was some structural damage and major splits and breaks in the veneer that required repair and reinforcement. Refinishing and preserving the wood was not an option so I decided a truly unique and one of a kind paint job with a ton of bling and personality would do this piece justice. A quick trip to my fabric supply store and a yard of gorgeous snow leopard faux fur later, and Catalina was born.
 
The majority of this vanity was painted in a warm greige colour. A crosshatch distress was hand painted to highlight the natural wear, add depth and accentuate the areas that naturally age with time. The frame of the mirror, the large centre drawer and the stool were painted in a metallic silver with a hammered metal pattern to add visual interest that ties in with the leopard spotting. The original hardware was also painted in a hammered metal to tie everything together. The mirror glass is original to the piece and is in remarkable condition for it's age. The centre of the mirror is almost pristine with no scratches. The outside edges show their age with a little bit of that gorgeous clouding that occurs in antique mirrors.
 
The leopard print transformation on this piece started with the addition of the Re-Design by Prima furniture transfer "Cheetah" decor transfer. The simple black cheetah print was the basis for our leopard spots. To transform the pattern to a stunning leopard pattern each black spot was meticulouslyleopard printed by hand guilding using silver leafing. For additional bling, decorative crown mouldings were hand formed, painted and treated with a silver guilding wax. A small crown was added to the back of the vanity, just below the mirror and two larger crowns were added to each side of the stool. All edges were highlighted using a silver guilding wax to add a little additional bling and the stool was transformed by reupholstering the stool in a beautiful faux fur fabric.
 
The drawer interiours were left original but we're scrubbed, sanded and rubbed down with a conditioning oil to freshen up their finish. The vintage wood on wood drawer slides were waxed and slide in and out with ease. The original castors remain on the piece but can be removed if buyer is concerned for the integrity of their wood floors.

**Vanity was been sealed with 2 coats of highly durable urethane/acrylic topcoat in a "Flat" sheen prior to leopard print treatment. The top pieces were then sealed with an additional 3 coats of the same durable finish in a "Semi-Gloss" sheen.
