This waterfall style cabinet was dried out and aging - the beautiful walnut veneer was damaged around the edges, the original hardware was missing and it needed much love and TLC. I originally purchased this cabinet in 18 pieces, with no hardware and damaged glass. The original owner had started the refinishing process but had given up and sold the cabinet "as is".
To start the makeover process the entire cabinet was painted midnight sky - a gorgeous dark grey with navy undertones. The centres of the cabinet sides, doors and drawers were highlighted with a rich teal - blue to add some subtle depth and tie in the interiour design scheme. The wood top was refinished to highlight the gorgeous walnut graining in the wood and all the interiour shelving was stained walnut to match.
New hardware and hinges were installed - a rustic bronze colour was used to match both the walnut detailing and the interiour gold accents. High quality hardware with oval carved detailing matching the cabinet base was imported from Italy, perfectly matching the original Art Deco look of the piece.
The original cabinet backing was badly water damaged and warped, the entire backing was removed and replaced. The interiour backing was painted in the same teal - blue used to highlight the body. Gold gilding wax was then used to stencil the entire backing as well as the insides of both cabinet doors. For additional visual interest and to showcase the interiour stencil details, LED lighting was installed along the top of the cabinet. The lighting is remote controlled and lights the interiours of both drawers as well as the centre cupboard. The lighting includes the following features:
- USB Plug
- Remote control
- 16 colour options for single colour lighting
- Colour changing lighting with flash/strobe/fading and smooth transition options
The glass on the centre cabinet door was replaced for a modern and scratch free finish.
The drawers and interiour cabinet were refreshed with a good cleaning, sanding and some protective oil to moisturize the wood and extend its life. The drawer slides were cleaned and waxed for easy gliding.
**The exteriour of this cabinet was sealed with 2 coats of a highly durable urethane/acrylic topcoat in a "Flat" sheen. The wood top was sealed with am additional coat of high quality urethane resin for additional wood protection. The interiour was conditioned and protected using a wood conditioning wax to hydrate and beautify the old wood
